Today approximately 65% of the American population is overweight & 40% of Americans are obese. Similar %s of obesity are prevalent in the entire 1st world.  One billion people on the planet are overweight:.

Our 1 Dietary RuleEat nothing today you will regret eating tomorrow.

Obesity is a chronic condition to best be treated with prevention .. nutrition & exercise

Often the chronic condition of obesity will lead to multiple acute conditions.  The root cause of many prevalent acute diseases is obesity or weight gain.

How many of your friends and neighbors have medical conditions associated with obesity.

Big belly abdominal fat, apple-shaped rather than pear-shaped, is linked to a higher risk of developing Type II Diabetes, cerebral stroke and cardiac disease.

Big belly / pot belly  in your 40s = 89% more Dementia in your 60s.

Your choice:

!. Proper Nutrition + Exercise.

  1. High Cholesterol
  2. Type 2 Diabetes
  3. Cardiac Disease
  4. Stroke
  5. Liver Disease
  6. High Blood Pressure
  7. Joint Disease
  8. Prostate Disease
  9. Breast Cancer
  10. Metabolic Syndrome
  11. Syndrome X

Premature Death

Obesity challenges the cardiac system, the vascular system, the hormonal system, joints ..+ clothing

The diseases associated with obesity may not manifest immediately ..

Even if obesity related conditions do manifest in the short term  .. they will manifest in the long-term.

The current medical philosophy is to ignore obesity, treatable with proper nutrition & exercise

& then, to treat the resulting acute conditions with multiple prescriptions .. even major surgery.

Do not listen to anyone who says it's okay to gain 10 pounds per decade after your 40s.  BUNK!

Where Adipose tissue is stored is critical to determining the health consequences at a given level of obesity.

  • Visceral obesity or belly fat .. the apple shape ... is a form of obesity that has great health consequences.

  • This form of obesity is most common in men.

  • Visceral obesity is actually more critical than the amount of adipose tissue (fat).

Waist circumference .. over the belly button measurement is an important measurement.

Waist measurement of over 40" in men or 32" in women is problematic.

The key to weight loss is not simply eating less fast food and random exercise. The key to weight loss is eating the proper foods and doing appropriate exercise.

Intelligent nutrition and informed exercise plus a little dedication are the keys in achieving a goal of healthy maturing

Can it be a mistake that "STRESSED" is "DESSERTS" spelled backwards?

There's an epidemic of obesity in children.  Based on actuarial tables our children could die younger than we will.

We look at food not just as calories but as nutrition. It is possible to consume more calories than we need and still be malnourished. We should eat whole foods and unprocessed grains. Proper nutrition is as important health as is weight loss.

I doubt anyone actually believes that a super sized Big Mac Meal is healthy.

& I doubt anyone believes that a KFC fried chicken bucket is a healthy food choice.

Nutrition is not rocket science.

How big is the weight problem in the United States.  HUGE

The United States, as a collective group, is 3,000,000,000 pounds overweight... in proper perspective, 12,000,000,000 1/4 pounders

We've gone from being overweight to obese. Americans will spend $2 trillion on obesity related disease this year.

The amount of money required to treat acute conditions geometrically exceeds the amount spent on preventive lifestyle interventions to control the chronic condition of obesity

Preventive cost is actually less than  miniscule ..

. & compared to the real cost of obesity, to include: sickness, surgery, discomfort, medications + buckets of money (for food & health care!)

  • + There's just a lot of slick advertising money motivating people to eat bad food
  •  .. if it's eatable & on TV avoid it!
  • I can't help it .. I started laughing as I dictated that .. but it's actually a pretty good rule

We now have 2 dietary rules: with 1 sub rule

  1. Eat nothing today you will regret eating tomorrow.
    1. Eat nothing advertised on TV (the sub rule / Jarred rule)
  2. See rule 1.

Syndrome X.   Metabolic Obesity

  •  Hormones are secreted by adipose tissue, excess abdominal adipose tissue &  secrets hormones that effect our appetite.

  • Metabolic Obesity or Syndrome X involves the hormone production by belly fat & internal visceral fat

In the history of man it is only in the last hundred or less that there has been a grocery store with refrigerated food close by.

  • It is only been the last 50 years that there have been fast food restaurants
  • .. only in the last 30 years the drive-in windows have dominated our lives.
  • Our DNA or our genes that allowed us to survive a famine prior to the last hundred years are still present in modern-day man.
  • It is in our DNA that we survive famine by storing energy in the form of body fat.
    • When our genes detect starvation our metabolism slows down .. the genes that did not slow down did not survive.
    • Our body actually conserves energy, reduces calories burned, in order for us to survive a perceived famine.
  • + People who did not conserve energy during a famine did not survive the famine and their DNA was not passed on.
    • One of the things that happens when we're on a low calorie diet is that our body goes into the "famine mode" to conserve energy, burn fewer calories..
  • If we do not eat, a starvation diet, it is in our survival instinct that we then gorge to prepare for the next famine.

Glycemic index is how fast consumed calories get into our bloodstream. Refined sugar is 100.

  • High glycemic index carbohydrates cause our blood sugar to skyrocket.
  • Process flour/grains have only been available for a few centuries.
  • Our body has not adapted to these high glycemic index foods.
  • High glycemic index foods cause a spike in insulin and cortisol.
  • The high glycemic index foods result in a hormonal roller coaster all day long.
  • This is a stress on our hormonal system/endocrine system and eventually will result in insulin intolerance, or type 2 diabetes.
  • The high blood glucose and spike in hormones due to the high blood glucose really confuses the body.

The current most common method (doctors office tool) for determining obesity is the BMI index.

  • BMI does not take into account muscle density, bone density or body fat.
  • BMI is simply is a ratio of weight to height.
  • An extremely muscular person can have the BMI of an extremely obese person.
  • BMI is quick and easy the BMI is far from accurate.
  • BMI stands for body mass index is an extremely commonly used method for estimating body fat.
  • BMI was originated in Europe and was originally calculated using metric measurements. BMI= kilograms/meter square
  • in America a formula has been developed using pounds and inches. BMI= poundsx703/inches square
  • BMI does not measure adipose tissue.
  • BMI is an interesting healthcare tool but it has a tendency to be far from accurate and less than 100% useful.
  • It does not take into account muscle volume versus fat volume or where the adipose tissue is stored on the body.

BMI does not show the percentage of body fat. It only relates body weight to height. Small frame large frame heavily muscled in the muscle does not enter into BMI calculation.
